Glasgow City Council Museums / Leisure Centres

Client: Glasgow City Council Culture & Leisure Services
Location: Glasgow
Value: £2,400,000
Project: CCTV & Security Museums / Leisure Centres

The objective of this project was to create a single, integrated, fully functional security system covering the Gallery of Modern Art, the Burrell Collection, McLellan Galleries, Kelvingrove Art Gallery, Scotland Street School Museum, St. Mungo’s Museum & Peoples Palace. M+E works involved the installation of CCTV cameras and access control equipment through-out the museums, controlled from a 24 hour manned control centre at Blochairn.  The remote sites are linked by fibre optic trunks and transmission utilises MPEG 4 video bridges which transmit four real time video links from each site.

External perimeter security is linked to the CCTV to provide automatic alarms and rotation of cameras to view the incident. This facility reduces the demands on the control room staff to continually monitor cameras. The “Integrated Security System” is a modular networked system capable of handling multiple remote sites and includes the following services.

  • CCTV

  • Digital recording servers

  • Intruder alarms system monitoring and control

  • Door access system monitoring and control

  • Fire alarm system monitoring

  • Public address system
