Broomlands Primary School, Kelso

Client: Scottish Borders Council
Location: Kelso

Turner and Townsend appointed us to carry out the full M+E design for Broomlands Primary School, a new facility located within the town of Kelso providing Nursery and Primary education facilities.

The complex roof design presented a number of challenges for the M+E systems, in particular with routing and concealing of services and for the design of the lighting and heating systems. This required an extensive coordination exercise within the project team, led by our lead engineer.

Building Information Modelling software (Revit) was used to model the building and M+E services and enable effective collaboration amongst the project team, satisfying the requirements of BIM Level 2. Detailed energy, daylight and natural ventilation analyses were carried out from the outset of the project to ensure the building provided maximum efficiency and optimum environmental conditions.
